Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | There are a couple things that make grain different, IMo:
Grains aren’t very perishable. If there is no buyer today, there’s always tomorrow, next year, or even next decade. That simply can’t be said for meat, milk, fruits, etc.
There are A LOT of buyers and shippers. Even if the grain industry could go the way of poultry, pork, dairy, spuds, apples, etc, it’s going to take a very long time for it to consolidate enough to get there. |
