Subject: RE: Really sad dairy article

Dairies in our region have been disappearing for a long time. Two cooperative organizations Farmer's Cow(CT) and Rhody Fresh(RI) have been working to diversify their products and get consumers to pay the higher price for their goods. We only buy their products when in need of dairy products. A very good friend of mine is trying to make a go of it as a cheese producer from his own cows. It's been a tough road for him as is family is several generations deep in farming but his parents split the farm up to all the siblings....most which didn't farm and just wanted cash. My friend scraped up the cash over several years to buy out his siblings. He has worked hard to establish business and it looks like it is starting to turn the corner. The biggest issue for new farming businesses that are not "commodity" based is finding the customer through marketing.

Here's a terrific trailer for a documentary film "Forgotten Farms" covering New England Dairy industry ............ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieNQSTc4H3w
