I always felt free trade with a country with supply management like Canada was a bad deal as an American dairy farmer. Our most profitable years came when the mad cow scare closed the border to Canadian cattle. Sexed semen fixed that problem for good. I don't think there's a great future in small dairy. Unless you can market your milk as a niche. Humanely raised, or pasture raised. You could buy all the surplus milk and dairy stocks and dump it in a pit. Farmers would have good prices for a while, and that would bring expansion........
