Subject: RE: Train Blocks Rural Road

Local town has had issues with trains blocking crossings for years. Suppose to only block a crossing for 20 minutes but have seennnthem blocked for several hours. Sometimes, in residential areas tgey would sit overnight eith the engines idling, causing lots of complaints. . Police tried issuing tickets to the engineer but didn't help.1/2 mile south of our house was a major railroad, New York Central, later Penn Central, that several long freights & passenger trains used day & night. I've seen trains stop in tg e middle of nowhere, between crossings, and sit because the crew's time was up. Eventyyally a cab would dhow up with a replacement crew.

Uncle always said there's good in everything, you just have to look for it. Old timmers claim that the gangsters from Chicago wouldn't rob the local banks because there was only one way out of town that didn't have a major railroad crossing.
