Kingston,Mi
Fields like these are why some of us are satisfied with 6 and 8 row equipment. Grandpa's farm in Leeds was relatively regular in shape (haven't been on the farm since 1961 or 62), but looking at aerial photos of the area, I see similar fields. Where I live there are similar fields that run along ridge tops with swamps defining the borders or areas so steep that deer use winches to navigate. With horses some of these slopes were farmed, tractors forced a re-evaluation of what was considered farmable. There is a farm 2.5 miles away where the tenants turned the F12 over enough that they started to use a plank wedged into the tractor frame so a member of the family would ride it like a sailor counter balancing a racing sail boat. WE were advising a farmer on adopting no-till in the 80's and his field was so steep he had to farm up and down the hill because going across the slope would have rolled the 4020 and the planter.
