As the run of yearlings run short (usually in April) and the beginning of calves that were placed on feed and pushed hard become available ( usually in Juneish) slaughter rates will be larger. It is seasonal, and probably happens every year to one extent or another. Each persons definition of "a wall" may certainly be different.
