East central Iowa | Thank you also Roon.
I always thought my figures came out to $85 to $100 per ewe with pasture for 6 months or drylot, for me.
That is figuring land cost, equipt., machine, fuel and everything else. My ground I use for hay and pasture will grow 200 plus corn so I look at it as ROI vs ROI. Then I realize I must like sheep because Sometimes I work for low wages with the sheep.
IA Jackrabbit, I'm in the same camp as you in thought process. If 1 lambs pays the bills the rest go to gross profit.
I have a very strong ethnic market so most of my lambs go at 75 to 85lbs for $1.85 to 2.10/lb. This is why I want to bring in Polypay genetics into flock.
They have been getting $2.30 to 2.90/lb for 60 to 80lb lambs for the last 60 days. Fall lambing 1/2 the flock seems like it would be the way to go. Need lambs to sell the entire year.
