East-Central Ontario | Other than barn chores, I've mostly been cutting wood for the last 2 months now, mostly to sell. Bought a 165 acre farm last spring, 15 fields, won't be able to clean the fences out for another year or so so I've been taking all the bigger trees out of them and cutting the small stuff to pile back on and burn later. Mostly elm, ash and red oak. Got about 40 cords cut and piled in the barnyard, about that much more in logs, and a whole pile of better logs at the sawmill waiting their turn.
Gonna have to invest in a forestry mulcher some day... all these fencelines are 50' wide with prickly ash and wild grape vines growing all over. Have to fight your way through to get to the trees to cut them, cut the ash as you go but it's all hung up in the vines hanging 10-12' above your head so when you cut the prickly ash it just hangs there and won't fall. Wife says my back looks like a roadmap, blood and gouges all over. | |
