plenty of surlplus joints thattear apart older units for parts and resell on ebay.
you can buy thewhole top with lcd, backlight and plastic,, OR you can buy just the LCD screen. either way the job is pretty simple, mostly a few screws or some clever plastic disasssembly. the wires are fragile, maybe the wife can do it if you are meat handed.
