Same here. You realize pretty quick at 18 years old that you don't know anything when you lose your only mentor. A lot of lessons learned the hard way, but we are still here! I'm the 4th generation on our farm, and my son will be the 5th if he wants it. Dad worked a night job at the local chickenhouse in the 80s to keep it afloat, and I run a concrete crushing and irrigation repair buisness to help diversify now. I have been extremely blessed to have had our family farm passed on to me, but it was preached to us growing up that the farm was not ours to own, it's ours to pass on to the next generation, and we were expected to earn the right to inherit our farm, not given it.
