could not have said it any better,if you are procuring grain for livestock needs you see how out of touch Chicago really is,couple years ago beans and meal were dropping on the board and basis jumped to $140 over if you could get it.i remember being long to protect corn needs,board dropped 30 cents but cash price actually went up 15 cents.seems like it just becomes gambling I think our odds are better at blackjack.when your right the enticement is so great because it is money made so easy compared to farming.amazing to me also how many grain mills don't use the board but only deal in forward contracts.remember listening to Daniel amstutz at a marketing meeting years ago.said key is to learn basis if your buying and selling grain.markets sooner or later tend to eat people up.this is my observation and MO after many years of actually taking positions[trading] but also dairy and cash crop farming.
