| When doing rough yield checks, I never count the bottom kernel or the top 3 or 4. For one, there are rarely the same around at the bottom or the top than there are in the middle. Secondly, unless you have a magic combine, there is going to field/header loss and the tiny top kernels are more than likely thrown out the back. I've read on here before where people have ears that are 50 long and 18 around, they just "hope they get the rain to fill all 50 kernels". Show me an ear that is a true 50 long and 18 round. We rarely hit 40 long, but many 18's and 20's in ECIL. I have found a 24 around before. | |
