Both are free. Google Calendar runs on the Google server farms, so you don't manage that part. You only get the functionality that Google provides, which may or may not be what you want.
vCalendar gets installed on your own server, so you have to set up the database, etc. It is available in several programming languages depending on what your people are comfortable with. It is open-source, and can be customized to do whatever you want, assuming you have people with the right skillset. You can customize permissions, styling, etc. | |
