51016 | Spent most of the day scouting in my corn fields. I don't farm a lot of acres but I am spread out over 40 miles from one end of where I farm to the other so I think I can provide an accurate representation for my area. What I am seeing the most of is variability. Most fields look good from the road, but once I am out in them pollination issues and tip back are prevalent. Rain has been very spotty in our area and moving ten miles north or south can make a big difference in the condition of the corn for either better or worse. Subsoil moisture is gone so my area will need rain to maximize grain fill even with cooler weather. I am not going to comment on where I think the national corn yield will end up, but for my area I think we are going to see an improvement in basis.
Picture is of two fields side by side with ears pulled almost 200 feet into each field.
