NW Indiana | It is actually amazing how accurate the usda is. In September if I walk out into an 80 I'm not confident I can be within 10 bushel on my guess. But yet over 200 million acres they are able to estimate things within 3% normally. So yeah they may miss corn estimate by even 300 million bushels but that is just 2% of last years yield. As much as the farmer likes to complain about the reports it is amazing how good of a job they do. Have we ever ran out? I don't recall doing so. Seems to me the price has been adjusted to supply very well.
All of that said I was guilty of not paying attention to the crop ratings last year. This year I am paying closer attention. | |
