I don't think it is really the price of the commodities that dictates if we are having tough times on the farms. In 1984 we had $3.00 corn and in 1985 we had corn mostly over $2.50. 15 years before that in 1970 corn prices where right at a $1.00. In 2001 the corn prices had fallen to under $2.00 a bushel. The tough times in the 80's had some pretty good prices. It was the really good prices of the 70's that got farmer spending way out of line. There could be less farmers that spent way too much this time during the good prices from 2007 through 2012 but there are still a bunch of $400,000 combines and $10,000 to $15,000 an acre land or high rent prices that will make it tough for some guys to cash flow.
