Subject: Corn vs beans: risk/reward.

Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
I've been wondering about this for awhile and given the inclement weather today I took the opportunity to look over my crop insurance, which we signed up for a week ago.
I take revenue protection because I don't have as many ways to market a crop here so I need some market protection. On my farm the revenue protection both the premium and the revenue guarantee works out to be just about the same for corn or beans. This means that in order to minimize my risk I need to plant the least cost crop. That crop is soybeans, hands down, bottom line. That's not to say I might not make more money in a good year on corn, just, in a bad year beans win.
So, let me ask you, "are you feeling lucky?"
