Subject: RE: Implants for calves when cutting

Montana
We use a Bradizzo to crimp the cord and not cut the skin and then we implant with Ralgro. We get about 45 days of gain with Ralgro and implant again at preconditioning.

It is, in our opinion, much more humane to use the cord crimping Bradizzo and we see much less stress in our Steer calves and we get increased weight gain. I used Synovex for a time years ago and did not find it as good or easy to use as Ralgro. We have amazing gains on our Calves as long as we don't run out of feed. Several summers, we have had to feed hay most of the summer and that is expensive but the only time to make money on a Beef Cow is when the calf is nursing and gaining weight.

It is a bit challenging to learn to properly use a Bradizzo and if calves are allowed to look thin and hungry, Buyers have been concerned about them being bull calves. Ralgro implanted properly twice will shrivel nuts to almost nothing anyway.

Always put very competent and capable people on Ralgro implanting and whatever sterilization method you use.
