Actually use both, silver and copper depending on application. Copper more for something where I want electrical conductivity, aluminum for most general reassembly. They also make a nickel formulation for SS, but I been getting by with the other 2 for my stainless work.

When I get a new can, I usually cut the top off the old one so I can get a small putty knife in there and scrape it out and put in the new can when there is room. A little light grade oil usually makes the viscosity come back to spec or thickness the way one prefers.

I am not a fan of those wimpy brushes either, I usually have some stiffer longer handle round bristle brushes from Hobby Lobby, WalMart or Meijer that I use, then take an old hydraulic fitting protector cap, cut two slits in it and poke the brush thru, slip the cap over the threaded end of bottle. Those long handle brushes work slick to get into those deep cavities or hard to reach spots.
Still manage to get it all over though.
