If you can find hay to cut or buy and it will pencil out, then stocking rates of 1 pair per acre is reasonable in Missouri. Then again, I know guys that do more but feed supplemental hay.
If your on that poor hilly pasture around Columbia, then I don't know. The stuff I'm talking about is ground that is marginally good for row crop so it's in pasture instead
