E.Central MN | The coop I currently buy fertilizer from said I could borrow one of their probes and they'd just charge me the lab costs. We are in a corn/soybean rotation, so after soybean harvest I pull soil samples from about 20-30 acre pieces, doesn't take long. I pull a bunch of samples from representative areas of each 20-30 acre chunk, mix it thoroughly and that's the sample blend I send in. It's not as accurate as grid sampling, but doesn't cost much. It gives me a basic starting point to use when discussing fertilizer needs for corn. Ideally, grid sampling every 3 years with yield mapping would be better if you have the capability already. | |
