I completely disagree with this statement.

Although a call option would be a good idea if his basis is favorable, a non-favorable basis like usually seen during harvest would be a bad time to sell cash and buy the board. Unless he's already locked basis in and is waiting for a rally, only then would I buy futures during harvest.

A CCC loan is a great tool to use. We currently have about 125k of wheat under loan and it was a very simple process. As long as you have bin measurements and legal descriptions as to where the crop is stored, it's a very painless process.
