I have always thought beans and corn take the same amount of water. The main difference is corn usually needs water 1-2 weeks earlier than beans, and conversely beans needs water 1-2 weeks later than corn. I try to do half corn, half beans under pivots and will run corn only or corn -1" beans -.5" early in irrigation season and reverse it towards the end of irrigation (corn -.5" beans -1" or beans only) I am also on anytime load control so there is always times when the pivots just run when not under control from the power company.
