perryton, tx | They've been a pest of sugarcane for a long time but at some point decided they like sorghum or it's a new pest, nobody is sure. The first real outbreak was in south Texas and the gulf states in 2013-it was predictable that they would spread north but nobody could guess how far. In 2014 they moved into central Oklahoma and south central Kansas; we saw them for the 1st time in 2015 but in relatively low numbers. This year they came in fairly late but since sep 1 they've really exploded. | |
