Subject: RE: Gleaner N7 moving or slowing down problem

The main drive belt idler has a threaded rod going straight down to a bracket welded to the side of the machine. On the bottom side of that bracket is the rubber snubber that helps take some of the vibrations out of the drive belt. On the top side of that bracket, threaded onto the rod, there is usually a nut. Make sure that nut IS NOT tightened down against the top side of the bracket. If it is tightened down tight the idler can not move and tighten up when a load is applied to the belt, which will cause the hydro to slow down and the separator to slow down. That nut is only there to stop the idler from falling if the main drive belt ever breaks. Keep that nut, the one on the top side of the bracket, about 2 inch above the bracket. We had a customer, with the same complaints as you, send his hydro off to be rebuilt only to have the same problems when it returned. Only found the problem when we rode with him in the field and when the hydro acted funny lights in the overhead monitors would also go off. Told us the belt was slipping. The customers hired man installed the belt and tightened the nut down on the top side of the bracket I have mentioned. Have seen a lot of people do that and have to inform them not too and explain why.
