Subject: RE: MFWD vs 2-track Tractor for Tiling - Traction

Leesburg, Ohio
Cannot speak with experience regarding a Quad track.

We started pulling our tile plow with a Cat Challenger 75 two-track with 25" tracks, with only about 1/3 tread on them. Did ok, but not great. Biggest problems were not being able to turn AT ALL, and going too fast (1.7mph at 1400 rpm).

Traded the Cat on a an 8530 Deere with ILS, IVT, duals all around, and all the weight we could bolt on. We like it better than the Cat. We don't run in extremely muddy conditions (we are wimps), but have never spun out yet at 4' or less. (I know, it will happen sooner or later.) The old Cat would randomly spin out at 4', and we would have to pull with a second tractor.

Similar experience pulling a disc ripper in muddy-on-top conditions demo-ing two identical Deeres: an 8430, and an 8430T, both pulling identical DMI 527B's. The T would spin out very easily and stop. The MFWD just kept on slogging forward.
