Subject: RE: opinion on JD IVT

I don't have the hours of experience with an IVT that most of the previous posters do, but I did demo an 8530 with IVT this spring to compare to our 8410. Speed and acres/hours were obviously increased some, but fuel usage was almost 50% higher doing the same job and I was not able to cover 50% more acres/hour. I can see some nice advantages to other jobs, like pulling the disc mower. 12th gear is just a little slow, but the jump to 13th in and 8000 is too big most time. IVT you could just dial in the speed you need.

Most hours on our 8000's are tillage and pushing silage so its hard to get excited about the IVT for those jobs. I would look at it for replacing our 6420 or for a 7000 series tractor.
