Subject: RE: Exhaust filter

central - east central Minnesota -
Not sure of the Dodge - but on a chevy, It is suggested to put it under load, with a heavy load/trailer and take it for a ride - long ride. The system needs to get up to higher temps a vehicle would experence when pulling a heavy load in the summer and it takes care of it's self - self cleaning. All the new emission light diesel pickup's that guys use as cars on short trips will have problems with the particulant filters plugging. Now if your Dad's is too far gone (plugged) then a dealer will have at it.  Take a look in the owners manual and see what it says . . . .   good luck ~
