Faunsdale, AL | X2. Have only ever run ours locked in for constant pressure one year. Have had JD drills for 25 or so. As long as the SCV holds pressure like it is supposed to the drill pressure will stay up a long time.
But there has to be some reason yours is causing the oil to overheat. Possibly a leaking cylinder or the drill has a kit for open center hydraulics installed??
A bad SCV can cause the overheating by itself. It is easy to swap one out at a time or use a blanking plate if you don't need all of the SCV's. An infrared thermometer might help find the source of the leakage before the whole system is overheated.
