I think you may have answered your own question. Take the chip off and try again. Was the chip on when it went to the dealer? If it was I'm surprised it wasn't the first thing for them to take off. I have seen at least 10 farm tractors in the last year that were having problems and after removing the chip everything settled down and worked the way it is supposed to.
