Not sure why there is any reason to get nervous about mid-30s. Those are not freezing temps. Supposed to be 28 here Saturday morning, let's hope there aren't any soybeans popping up by then...


On years past I've had more trouble with corn dying off in the low spots with cold wet temps than the beans.

Maybe things are different now. Or 'here' and 'there' are different.

In our rolling ground there are lots of bowls that pool cold air, that might make things different. Years ago with ancient seed treatments dad wouldn't plant corn before May 9th, and I remember him reseeding those low cold wet spots many many times. Now some are 14/15ths of a month earlier planting.....

Relative replanted a peat slough of corn already, too wet too long with the cold weather only 7-10k were coming up.

He figures he will be replanting it again after this weekend.

The soaking wet is as big or bigger deal than just cold, but they go together.....

The ice men days, always seems to catch a 3 day cold spell here in the early teens of May.
