MN | First experience with cover crops and planting green this year. 1 bu cereal rye broadcast after sugar beet harvest last October and incorporated with a Salford RTS. Got about 3" of growth before freeze up since we had some rain and nice weather after seeding. This spring the rye greened up nice and then got froze 3 or 4 times but ended up between 10 and 20" tall depending on where you were in the field at time of planting on Saturday the 7th. Planted some 1.7 maturity seed beans about 1.5" deep. Row cleaners were raised up, planted about 4.2 mph, 165# downforce and closing wheels in 2nd notch. Could have planted them days sooner as conditions in field were perfect but we were finishing up corn. Soil was a little on the dry side but planted nice and closed the seed trench real well with no air pockets. Had a lot of traffic and rubber necking while we were planting, I am sure everyone is thinking we are nuts!
Wanted to get a few pictures from the cab but as soon as I got rolling my phone died and no charger in the tractor. Way she goes...
