I have always had good luck with the size 4's. We run e-sets on the planter though, that has probably helped the most to get a better stand. We plant quite a few 3's also. I hate planting size 2's, I'll send those back if I can and get smaller. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, they are just going to plant tough.
