Agreed, You don't want them to get too far along either. A local renter let a field of beans go, horse weeds got a grip. Sprayed.. but it didn't do much good.. but when your rent the ground for $500 an acre.... and beans were no longer top dollar.. I'm sure things were pretty dang tight.

Ours was a green carpet when we went in. weeds weren't very tall. It was fun watching it turn brown... then the beans took over, and shaded anything else out.
