Midwest | With nearly all varieties there is both a patent on the trait (RR) and patent on the specific variety (Pioneer 92Y51 for example). The RR1 patent has expired, but very rarely has enough time gone by for a soybean variety to be off the variety patent. (since they come out and go away so frequently)
