Subject: RE: In line rippers

I think they would be about the same, we almost bought a Deere last fall to have a second machine in addition to our DMI 2500.

As for draft it makes a lot of difference how deep you run and what type of soil you have. I would say a 7 shank V ripper would pull about the same as a 5 shank in line, maybe even easier depending on the points you have on it.

We've got a 7 shank with hydraulic wings. On a 55 Cat we ran it wtih 5 shanks. Now we've got it on an 8430 mfd, if we keep it at 12 inches deep or less we can run on with the 7 shanks in the ground. The 8430 has the hp, but doesn't have the traction to put it in the ground much deeper with 7 shanks. If we run it with 5 shanks on the 8430 we can get the points down about 16" from actual ground level before it's heaved up on the 8430.

We tried the 2500 on an 8300 that we had and it didn't do a very good job with it with just 5 shanks down. It ran out of traction too soon compared to the 55 or even a 45.
