Mid Michigan | Russ, you have to be talking about this cheap stamped steel oil pump kit they put in these Borg Warner transfer cases. I have a 1356 in my 1988 F-350 and my oil pump metal bracket broke and ended up in the bottom of the case and got caught in between the gears. I was backing up in the driveway and it locked the truck up and about sent me through the windshield! Took out the drain plug and all bunch of metal fell out. I had to rebuild it. Does this oil pump kit look familiar? Pretty chinsey design if you ask me.
