Everyone around here who had electric has swapped the electric out for gas, corn, or waste oil. Electric is the most efficient but also the most expensive.
If you do go with electric, go with water, not electric pads. That gives the option to switch or add a biofule heat source in the future. Also, there has been instances where the electric pads have burnt out.
