mn | How can you not make 200 bales per acre @ $5 pencil?
Figuring established stand
$275 rent
$100 fert.
$100 fuel/twine/hauling(plenty high)
$50 chemical
$75 repairs/maintenance
----------------
$600/acre inputs
200 bales at $5/bale = $1000/acre
$400/ acre profit.
We do round bales but here is what we did:
Older reliable balers (late 90s) with net wrap 5x6. PAid under $10,000 for both
Purchased a partially burnt baler for $500 and took thousands if not tens of thousands in parts off.
Completely rebuilt wear parts on both balers not by purchasing all new parts but by rebuilding and machining parts to last longer than new.
Go out and do custom baling as much as we can.
Trade the use of a 10 wheel H&S high capacity rake for making a few bales for a retired guy.
JD 1600 haybine in excellent condition for $1200
I will agree that there is guys running all new equipment that probably cant pencil it. Also, there is way too many weekend warriors willing to work for free just to avoid buying hay for hay burners. High hay prices brought a ton of people out of the woodwork to bale everything possible. | |
