So Jon asked below about our tour yesterday. We met some very nice and generous lurkers down here. Thx to CH for setting up this private tour for us.... Membership has it's privileges. This site at Convent, LA is 163 miles from the gulf. They can load 2.2 mil bu on a Panamax in less than a day. Google it if you want to learn more about ownership structure and relation to CGB. 20 % of gulf exports go through this terminal. Those buckets on the barge unloader hold 56bu each. They empty a barge in 45 minutes with this and bobcats they lower into them. Barge unloader can move up and down and side to side, a cable moves barge back and forth. 2 lanes so 1 barge can be positioned, while other one is unloaded. Off tomorrow to check out some double crop rice and .... Get ready for it.... Crawfish farmers.
