Subject: RE: Why Y drops

SW Ontario
I was at a meeting this winter where they discussed nitrogen management in corn. When they did plots of top-dressed dry nitrogen vs ydrops; there was no statistical difference. Even the difference between a coulter injection unit at V6 and applying nitrogen at V12 or VT was very localized. The areas that saw yield differences where areas that had received heavy rainfall early in the spring and were heavier ground. Most of the other trials showed very little difference.

There was some research done in this area a few years ago comparing every row side-dress vs every other row, and they found no statistical difference. So I don't see why the same principle wouldn't also apply to ydrops, especially since ydrops are applying nitrogen to the base of every row even at 60" spacing.
