Northcentral Kansas
I agree with Dpilot's advise. Don't go beans. Don't do tillage, hit it hard with Rup, apply plenty of N, use spiked closing wheels and plant a short season corn. In western Kansas a lot of good land was put into CRP because it was in a wildlife priority area not because of poor soil. Personally I feel it will be a up hill battle to raise a crop this year if the grass has not been killed yet. I would harvest the hay July 1 then kill the grass the rest of the summer then plant it to corn next year. A crop failure is a bad way to start your farming career so I would give yourself the best chance for success. I'm not sure if corn this year will be insurable either.
