One of the main reasons other than the others that have been stated is the fact that the "same" hybrid is entered multiple times under different companies. 6533 Agrigold comes to mind. An older hybrid that has had pretty good success that is accessible in about 18 different companies bags. So if Pioneer or DeKalb enter 1 hybrid that is proprietary to them and it gets beat, then the audience sees that they got beat by many different companies. When in fact, they happened to get beat by 1 single hybrid. And they will get beat....your odds of winning increase the more entries that hybrid has.
