I'm in the Red River valley of ND and are pH is 8.2 ...we have land with 50tons of hi ca lime on it.... You cannot get soil pH to 12, it is impossible.... Soil biology doesn't survive below 4 or above 12.… so NH3 is pH of 12.5 , k is around 11. Sounds to me someone who sells you fertilizer is trying to keep your checkbook in there pocket. There is lots of data that agrees with this.
