| Last year I went to a farmers market in Louisville. 15 minutes from solid ag production. It blew my mind the product prices and the sales that I was witnessing. $13.99 for ground beef, cheapest steak cuts at $20 per lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts $9.99 per lb dark chicken meat $3.99 per lb. the customer base there was obviously not like anyone I assume to be on ag talk. I ran some numbers on turns of 50 broiler chickens in a small pasture area to label "farm fresh" high mortality and input costs yielded me over $4 per lb or conservatively $16 per bird. When you get a chance look up a micro dairy. Those guys there were making jack. | |
