March 2016 corn future bought Jan 4 2016 and sold Jan 22 2016 returned +5.1% minus broker fees. March 2016 corn 3.60 straddle sold Jan 4 2016 and bought back Jan 22 2016 returned 28% minus broker fees. Local cash corn prices have improved more than futures in 2016 YTD, basis is climbing. Positive returns for corn, negative returns for stock market index and crude shows where money should have been invested in 2016 YTD. No guess about what's ahead, but we are sitting on all of our 2015 corn and soybean crop, waiting for better cash prices. |
