If you do get cracked fingers then put the liquid bandage stuff called New Skin on the cracked area. You can find it in most drug stores.
And wear gloves all the time. If my hands get real cold I can expect cracked fingers soon. Bare hands in moist soil is another crack causer for me.
Try wearing merino wood socks to help your feet problems.
