| Radiehl - 10/27/2015 15:45 Curious do you believe GW can be effectively addressed without a substantial reduction in livestock emissions? We should probably reduce all sources of green house gases, including livestock, if we want to control the current rise of 0.175 °C per decade since we have satellite data on GW. At this rate, we'll get a full 2 °C increase in just over a century.I don't see this happening though: Most developing countries represent a huge worldwide population that will be eating much more meat compared to what they are eating now. At best we can expect developed countries to reduce a bit their meat consumption, worldwide production to keep getting more efficient and less polluting, and the trend to switch to "white" meat to continue: Poultry is more efficient than beef at converting feed into protein, for instance, so it requires less land, less water, less resources, etc. An extra 10 g of meat daily for 1 billion people represents 3,65 million tonnes per year, or about 16.4 million 1,200 lb. steers. |
