I was wary as well, my ford has it with no problems. Actuation is pretty quick, put it to the test many times this weekend with the opening of deer season. In and out of 4 on the go seamlessly is a nice feature. I do use 4wd more than once a month depending on where i am and what i'm doing. Cant judge about wether it does it after its been sitting. Ford hubs have an auto and a manual lock setup so if the vac system wets the bed you can have a plan "b" and get out to hub up like the old days. Transfer case is a electric motor.

Same here, I was less than thrilled when I first saw it on my '95 Ford, but it's given me 282,000 trouble free miles, did change the auto hubs to manual after busting one though.
