Subject: uneven maturing oats

Hazel Green, WI
Any ideas why this oats field is ripening so uneven? Had a nasty 3 inch rain and wind storm in about 45 minutes back on June 20 that took a fair amount of it down. The oats that is green is not the down stuff. Some seed guys have said that the storm knocked some of the oats heads off, then they grew. I find this hard to believe because when the storm happened the oats heads maybe were in milk stage roughly. If knocked to the ground, that wouldn't grow would it? No consistancy to the patterns, such as wheel tracks or anything. A few other farmers in the area are seeing the same thing. This field was planted on April 1. I'm 51 and have never seen this before. It's a bummer because I need the oats and straw. Longer it stays out there, I risk having the alfalfa smothered out.
